What is a computer network?
-When two or more computers are connected together through a communication medium. This can be done both wirelessly and physically using a cable.
Describe a server:
-A powerful computer that provides services to other computers on a network.
For example, internet.
Describe a client:
-A desktop computer that is capable of obtaining information and applications from a server.
What is communication medium?
-This describes how the computers are connected and provides communication channel
What is the difference between guided and unguided medium?
Guided Medium: has cables like Ethernet cables.
Unguided Medium: completely wireless.
What is a network adaptor?
- A network adaptor is the component of a computer’s internal hardware that is used for communicating over a network with another computer.
- This is commonly known as NIC (network interface card). Can provide wired and wireless connectivity.
What is a router/wireless access point?
-Used to provide connectivity between devices. This allows internet connection to be shared across all network devices wirelessly.
What are network resources?
-Peripheral devices such as printers and fax devices can be shared using network resources.
What is a user?
-Any person who uses network resources.
What are protocols?
-A set of rules that control the communication process. There are different protocols for different purposes: Mail and File Transfer.
