Q

Role of the parasympathetic nervous system

A

Initiates the rest and digest response which conserves energy for vital functions so increases digestion and decreases heart rate and breathing

Q

Roles of the endocrine system

A

-regulates cell/organ activity and controls vital physiological processes in the body
-releases hormones from glands into the bloodstream which then bind with specific receptors to regulate the activity of cells in the body

Q

Steps of the fight or flight response

A

-hypothalamus detects a threat in the environment
-this activates the sympathetic nervous system initiating the fight or flight response
-hormone adrenaline is released from the adrenal glands into the bloodstream
-this then causes physiolological changes to happen in the body
-once the threat has passed the parasympathetic nervous system is activated initiating rest and digest and homeostasis occurs
