SPLENIUS CAPITIS
O: nuchal ligament from C3-C6 & SP’s of C7-T4
I: lateral 1/3 of superior nuchal line of occiput & mastoid process
N: dorsal rami of spinal nerves
K:
1) Extension of the head & neck @ spinal joints
2) Lateral flexion “ “
3) Ipsilateral rotation “ “
SPLENIUS CERVICIS

SCALENES
for O’s & I’s:
Anterior: anterior tubercles on TP’s of C3-C6 –> rib 1 (scalene tubercle)
Middle: posterior tubercles on TP’s of C2-C7 –> rib 1 (superior surface)
Posterior: posterior tubercles on TP’s of C5-C7 –> rib 2 (external surface)
N:
Anterior: ventral rami of cervical nerves c4-c6
Middle: ventral rami of cervical nerves C3-C8
Posterior: ventral rami of cervical nerves C6-C8
K
Anterior & middle flex the neck @ spinal joints and elevate rib 1
Posterior elevates rib 2
All 3 do lateral flexion of the neck at spinal joints
