A
NSC 68 replaced DPS, because it allowed the USA to fight a limited war in south east Asia. To do this, the USA’s taxes were trebled to fund for more ammunition.

- Important:
- LIMITED WAR - allowed the USA to fight a limited war against communism in south east Asia, which DPS didn’t allow.
- PUBLIC SUPPORT - received American public support, as the taxes trebled which led to an increase of $50 billion per year for military funding.
- GLOBAL POLICE OFFICER - gave the USA a reason to become a global police officer, to fight a limited war against communism. - Limited in importance:
- KOREAN WAR - didn’t prevent communist North Korea invading capitalist-democratic South Korea. This was because Truman had continued using DPS for too long, despite Korea laying outside the defensive perimeter.
