Extends the leg at knee joint
Innervation of vastus lateralis
Femoral nerve
Origin of vastus intermedius
Anterior and lateral surfaces of femur
Insertion of vastus intermedius
Combined tendon inserts into upper end of patella. Patellar ligament (lower end of quadriceps femoris tendon) inserts into tibial tuberosity
Innervation of vastus intermedius
Femoral nerve
Action of vastus intermedius
Extends the leg at knee joint
Origin of iliopsoas
Ilacus - Iliac fossa
Psoas major - Bodies, discs, and trasverse processes from T12-L5
Insertion of iliopsoas
Common tendon on lesser trochanter of femur
Innervation of iliopsoas
Psoas - Ventral rami L2-L4
Iliacus - Femoral nerve
Action of iliopsoas
Chief flexor of the femur at the hip joint, flexes the vertebral column when sitting up from supine posiiton, stabilizes column in the sitting position
Origin of pectineus
Superior pubic ramus
Insertion of pectineus
Pectineal line of femur
Innervation of pectineus
Femoral nerve (sometimes receives branch of obturator)
Action of pectineus
Flexes and adducts the femur at the hip joint
Origin of gracilis
Body and inferior ramus of pubis
Insertion of gracilis
Upper medial tibia (between insertions of the sartorius and semitendinosus)
Innervation of gracilis
Obturator
Action of gracilis
Adducts the femur at the hip joint, flexes the leg at the knee joint
Origin of adductor longus
Front of pubis
Insertion of adductor longus
Middle third of linea apera
Innervation of adductor longus
Obturator nerve
Action of adductor longus
Adducts and flexes the femur at the hip joint
Origin of adductor brevis
Body and inferior ramus of pubis
Insertion of adductor brevis
Upper linea aspera
Innervation of adductor brevis
Obturator nerve
Action of adductor brevis
Adducts and flexes the femur at the hip joint
Origin of adductor magnus
Adductor portion - Ischiopubic ramus
Hamstring portion - Ischial tuberosity
Insertion of adductor magnus
Adductor portion - Linea aspera and medial supracondylar ridge
Hamstring portion - Adductor tubercle
Innervation of adductor magnus
Adductor portion - Obturator nerve
Hamstring portion - Tibial division of sciatic nerve
Action of adductor magnus
Adductor portion - Adducts and flexes the femur at the hip joint
Hamstring portion - Extends the femur at the hip joint
Origin of obturator externus
Margins of obturator foramen and obturator membrane
Insertion of obturator externus
Trochanteric fossa
Innervation of obturator externus
Obturator nerve
Action of obturator externus
Laterally rotates the femur at the hip joint
Origin of gluteus maximus
Ilium behind posterior gluteal line, sacrum and coccyx, sacrotuberous ligament
Insertion of gluteus maximus
2/3 insert into iliotibial tract, 1/3 insert into gluteal tuberosity of femur
Innervation of gluteus maximus
Inferior gluteal nerve
Action of gluteus maximus
Extends and laterally rotates femur at the hip joint, helps maintain knee joint in extension
Origin of gluteus medius
Outer ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
