MUSCLE fibres Flashcards
Fusiform
run at the length of the muscle belly, made for mobility, contract at long ranges, produce low force
EG: BICEPS
Pennate
run at angles of the tendons, less mobility than fusiform
uni pennate
run at one side of central tendon
bi pennate
run at either side of the central tendon
multi pennate
branch off from several tendons, more force produced.
EG: deltoid
Radiate Muscles
comes out from the main tendon, strength and power while having mobility
EG: deltoid
features of msucles
Nervous Control: nerve stimuli control muscle action
hypertrophy: Muscles grow in size with exercise
Atrophy: Muscles loss size and strength due to lack of exercise or disease
extensibility: Muscles can stretch when force is applied
Contractability: muscles contract and get thicker
Elasticity: muscles return to normal shape once stretched
muscle fibre
contains, mitochondria, myoglobin, actin, myosin filaments, atp and proteins
