Musckoskeletal Flashcards
Difference between open / closed #
Open: skin broken due to broken bone or penetrating wound down to bone
Closed: No brake in skin
5 causes of Fractures?
- Direct force
- Indirect force
- Abnormal muscle contraction
- Pathological fracture
- Stress fracture
General Management #
> A-E
O2
Stabilise C-Spine
Analgesia
Sterile dressing to open #
Splint as indicated, Elevate # (skill 801)
Splint and ice packs to dislocations, joint damage, and bad displacement of #
Check distal circulation
Transport as necessary, monitor circulation, sensation and motor function to distal of injury
Consider elevation, IVC, Fluid infusion
What is a Dislocation? How do you manage it
Joint forced beyond anatomical position, articulate surface not in contact, no brake in bone. Managed as same as a fracture except it is never manipulated
