What is a sperm cell ?

A

Sperm are continuously produced in the testes of adult male mammals.
Each sperm is much smaller than an egg cell and has a head containing the nucleus, and a tail that enables it to swim. Each sperm contains mitochondria to produce the ATP necessary to swim. In plants, the male gamete is found within the pollen grain.
Pollen grains are formed within the anthers of flowers

What is an egg cell ?

A

An egg cell is produced in the ovaries.
Each egg contains a female nucleus and a large store of food.
In a plant the female gamete is found within the ovule and they produced in the ovaries of flowers
