Nephron function
Responsible for the removal of wastes from the blood and regulating blood composition.
Villi function
Move nutrients from opening of the small intestine into the circulatory system.
Microvilli function
Projections smaller than villi, to increase. The surface area of each villus so they can absorb the maximum amount of nutrients.
Path of urine
Travels out of the kidneys through the ureters to be stored in the bladder. Urine then exits the bladder through the urethra .
Formation of urine
- Glomerular filtration
- Selective reabsorption
- Tubular secretion
Glomerular filtration
Takes place in renal corcupsule when fluid is forced out of the blood and is collected by the glomerular capsule.
Tubular secretion
Final process in formation of urine. Adds materials to the filtrate from blood. May include potassium and hydrogen ions as well as creatinine and drugs.
