whats the MOA of lithium carbonate
blocks the serotogenic neurotransmission
whats the MOA of carbamazepine
calms neuron by blocking the nero-sodium channels
whats the MOA of sodium valporate
enhances serotogenic and reduce dopaminergic actions
what are the side effects of lithium carbonate
- neurologic: slurred speech, hand tremors
- GI: nausea, polyuria
- endocrine: risk of hypothyroidism
- cardio: ecg changes
what is the acceptable level of lithium carbonate
0.8-1.2 mEq/L
what happens if the level of lithium goes above 1.5mEq/L
muscle weakness, diarrhoea, tremors, blurred vision
what happens if the level of lithium goes above 2mEq/L
life threatening!
neurotoxicity, delirium and encephalopathy
what are side effects of carbamazepine
neurological: headache, sedation, confusion
GI: nausea, constipation
