Momentum Flashcards
1
Q
What is conservation of momentum?
A
When two objects collide the total momentum before the collision is equal to the total momentum after the collision.
2
Q
What is Newtons third law?
A
That everything has an equal and opposite reaction.
“If A exerts a force on B, then B exerts an equal but opposite force on A”.
3
Q
List the main three car safety features- why do we have them?
A
Modern cars have safety features that absorb kinetic energy in collisions. The main examples are:
- seat belts
- air bags
- crumple zones
4
Q
What is momentum a product of?
A
Mass and velocity.
5
Q
What is a ‘closed system’?
A
A ‘closed system’ is something that is not affected by external forces.
6
Q
What is momentum conserved in?
A
Collisions and explosions.
