Density = mass over volume
Explain why some materials sink and some float in water
If a material is more dense than water, it will sink. If it is less dense than water, it will float.

Solids are the most dense because their particles are tighly packed
Liquids are next as they have some spaces in them
Gases are last because their particles are far apart.
What is the pattern of density in elements?
As you go down a group, the density increases. As you move across a period(left to right) the density increases.
