Mokah Pain Flashcards
what is cutaneous pain
hard wired system that allows you to know where pain is localized, and you can identify the actual tissue damage
what is visceral pain
diffuse in character, poorly localized . it is usually referred pain
which kind of pain is associated with emotional and autonomic responses
visceral
what happens in the convergence hypothesis
the brain does mislocalization of where the problem is
what allows for convergence to occur?
both the skin and visceral fibers must enter thru the same dorsal root
Where do the visceral pain fibers from the heart and upper extremities enter
t1-t5
which fibers mediate pain
a delta and c fibers
a child is born without a delta and c fibers. what does this mean
they will not be able to feel pain
what feature of c fibers makes it difficult to localize pain
there are diffuse terminations which means its not a good stimulus for localization. the terminations because there are few visceral pain receptors as compared to skin
what are 4 factors enabling referral of visceral pain
- diffuse terminations of visceral pain fibers
- localized terminations of skin pain fibers
- convergence of skin and visceral pain fibers on the same spinothalamic tract neurons
- visceral and skin pain fibers enter thru the same dorsal root
pain from uterine body is carried by what nerve
hypogastric nerve
pain form anus, vagina and clitoris is carried by what main nerve, and which specific nerves to each part?
main = pudendal
clitoris = dorsal nerve
vagina = sup perineal
anus = inf rectal nerve
which nerve mediates pain induced by hemrroids
pooooooodendal nerve
what can cause compression of the pudendal nerve
constipation
what segments carry info for the uterine body
t10 - L1
