Module 3: The Prep Room Flashcards
Pressure machines
Used for injection or aspiration
Hydro aspirator
attached to a water faucet, used to reverse the flow of water so as to direct it through the hose connections for either drawing fluid from the body cavity or rinsing a desired location
Electric aspirator
Uses electricity to create vacuum instead of large volumes of water
Gravity injector
Used to deliver arterial solution providing, a slow steady rate at 1 pound of pressure for every 28 inches raised
Hand pump
Hand held device with two slip-hubs one hub delivers air to create pressure the other hub creates a vacuum
Bulb syringe
Hand operated device consisting of a rubber bulb with hoses at each end. A one-way valve allows the device to arterial solution flows into the bulb when relaxed, when squeezed the solution flows into the body
Electric spatula
Used for smoothing out facial wrinkles or covering up incisions

Dressing tables
Prep room table used for putting clothes on the deceased, storage and general purpose
Refrigeration
Cooling chamber used to slow the process of decomposition
Sharps container
Puncture-proof container that safely holds used needles, blades, etc. for disposal/recycling
Arterial tubes
Various types, lengths, and sizes, used to inject solution
Needle injector
Used to insert a barb with wire attached to hold lower jaw closed
Scalpel
Sharp cutting instrument used to make incisions
Aneurysm hook
Sharp point, used for tissue dissection in determining location of and raising arteries and veins
Aneurysm needle
Blunt tip, used for tissue dissection in determining location of and raising arteries and veins
Bistoury knife
Curved cutting instrument, that cuts from the inside outward
