INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS
What are the 3 most common types of computers?
- Laptops
- Smartphones
- Tablets
What does multi-purpose mean?
This means that these computers have the capability of completing different tasks at the same time because of the multiple tools that they have installed.
What are the two most important components that ALL computers need to work?
Hardware AND Software
Hardware?
Physical parts of a computer that you can touch.
Examples of hardware?
- Mouse
- Monitor
- Keyboard
Software?
The instructions a computer needs to do its work.
What are the steps of the Information Processing Cycle?
- Computers receive Input – usually from the keyboard or the mouse.
- Input processed into information.
- The information is then used to make the output- usually through a screen/monitor or printer.
- Often the output needs to be stored for later use.
What do we use computers for?
To process data into information.
Data?
Unprocessed items such as text, numbers, footage, etc.
Information?
The result of processed data that can be used.
What is the program that controls all the activities on the computer?
The Operating system.
Examples of operating systems.
- Android
- iOS
- Windows
What is the booting process?
When the computer is switched on, the operating system automatically loads.
What does GUI stand for?
Graphical User Interface
What is GUI?
Allows the user to interact with the (Operating system) and to make selections through the use of graphical elements such as icons and tiles.
