Module 1: Securing Networks Flashcards
Why do we need network security
Network security breaches can disrupt e-commerce, cause the loss of business data, threaten people’s privacy, and compromise the integrity of information
What is a attack vector?
A path by which a threat actor can gain access to a sever or network.
What is a Campus Area Network (CAN)
A interconnection of networks located in a nearby building. EG a campus
What is a Wide Area Network (WAN)
Spans a large geographic area such as a state
What is a SOHO
A small home office, usually protected by consumer grade routers.
What is a Data Centre Network
House in a offsite facility to store sensitive data. Connect to corporate sites using a VPN.
What is Outside Perimeter Security
Security officers, fences, gates, CCTV, breach alarms
What is Inside Perimeter Security
CCTV, motion detectors, security traps and biometric access
What is hyperjacking
When a attacker hijacks a VM hypervisor and then launches a attack from there
What is instant on activation
When a VM that has not been used in a while is bought online. It may have outdated security policies that leaves it open to attack.
What is a layer 3 switch
These distribution layer switches are secured and provide secure redundant trunk connections to the Layer 2 switches.
What is a layer 2 switch
These access layer switches are secured and connect user-facing ports to the network.
