Modern day slavery
Modern day slavery is comprised of two principal components: forced labour and forced marriage. Both refer to situations of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or cannot leave because of threats, violence, coercion, deception or abuse of power.

Removal of organs
The person is encouraged, required or expected to do anything:
Which involves the commission by him or her or another person, of an offence under section 32 or 33 of the human tissue act 2004
Which would involve the commission of such an offence, by him or her or another person.
Intent to commit an offence
A person commits an offence under this section if the person commits any offence with the intention of committing an offence under section 2, including an offence committed by aiding, abetting, counselling or procuring an offence under that section.
National referral mechanism (NRM)
o The national referral mechanism is a framework for identifying and referring potential victims of modern slavery and ensuring they received the appropriate support
o Victims may not be aware that they are being trafficked or exploited and may have consented to elements of the exploitation or accepted their situation.
Duty to notify referrals
The difference between the NRM and DtN referrals relates to the consents of the adult involved.
If a potential adult victim does not consent to an NRM refer, them a DtN referral must be made.
Child under 18 referrals
o If a potential victim or, or may be, under 18, then an NRM referral must be made.
o Children must be subjected to safeguarding measures before the NRM referral is made.
o Consent of the child is not required
