Mitosis Stages Flashcards
Stage 2
Prophase (prepare)- chromatin condenses to produce chromosomes to become visible under light microscope. Nucleus envelope breaks down and centrioles move to opposite sides of the cell (spindles produce)
Stage 3
Metaphase (middle) spindles attach to centromere, spindles contract and chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell (equator)
Stage 4
Anaphase-(Apart)-spindles contract and pull copies apart (sister chromatid)
Stage 5
Telophase-(Two) original cell splits from middle and two new cells are formed. Chromosomes uncondense to produce Chromatin. New nuclear envelope forms. Centrioles move together (reverse of stage 2)
Stage 1
Interphase- Chromatin copy themselves so the originals are not lost. (Copy)
