Mitosis nd Asexual Repro. Vocab. Flashcards
Mitosis
When the mother cells’ nucleus divides.
The first stage of cell division
Cell Division
When a cell divides into two smaller, equal versions known as daughter cells.
Cytokinesis
When the cytoplasm divides.
The seconds phase of cell division
Interphase
In-between cell division. A period of growth.
Cell cycle
Series of events that cells go through as they grow. (IPMAT)
Prophase
First and longest phase of mitosis, the chromosomes of the cell becomes visible and double, centrioles move and make up the spindle. The nuclear envelope disappears
Metaphase
Chromosomes line up at the middle of the cell
M=Middle
Anaphase
Sister chromatids move away from each other
Telophase
Chromosomes lose shape, cell membrane pinches in and the nuclear envelope reforms. The cell looks like a peanut.
Chromosomes
Visible genetic material. Paired chromatids.
Sister chromatids
2 identical connected strands of a chromosome
Chromatin
Thin, unorganized genetic material
Cancer
Uncontrolled cell growth. Does not respond to normal growth regulation signals.
Asexual Reproduction
Process by which a single parent reproduces by itself.
DNA replication
Process by which DNA copies itself identically.
