mitosis Flashcards
interphase of mitosis
aka G2, chromosomes duplicate but not necessarily condensed
prophase of mitosis
chromosomes form/condense, nuclear envelope disappears as lamin proteins phosphorylated by MPF, mitotic spindle forms and attaches to kinetochores of duplicated chromosomes
metaphase of mitosis
chromosomes align on metaphase plate in middle of cell - splitting sister chromatids down the middle - homologs DONT interact
anaphase of mitosis
cohesin, which keeps sister chromatids together, is broken down, chromosomes separate as sisters pulled toward opposite poles by motor proteins
telophase of mitosis
formation of 2 new identical daughter nuclei
cytokinesis of mitosis
cell splits into equal halves - new cell plate forms or cleavage by constriction of actin filaments
