Mitosis Flashcards
interphase
part of the life cycle of the cell not in mitosis, most of the time for a cell
steps of Mitosis
Please Pee on the MAT P-prophase 1 )early) P- prophase 2 (late) M-metaphase A-anaphase T-telophase
Mitosis definition
process by which a nucleus reproduces making two identical daughter cells-
early prophase
1/6 mitotic spindle forms, chromosomes start to condense
late prophase
2/6 nuclear envelope breaks down - chromosomes fully condense
metaphase
3/6 chromosomes line up at the metaphase plate
anaphase
4/6 non-kintochare microtubules push poles apart
kintochare microtubules pull chromosomes toward poles
telophase
5/6 de-condense, spindle disappears, nuclear membrane reforms, nucleas reappears
cytokenisis
6/6 cells split apart
end result
2 identical daughter cells with exact same genetic info as original
purpose
organism grows larger, heals, etc.
