Mitosis Flashcards
S phase
Replicate during S phase (interphase)
Prophase
Centrosome move to opposite ends of the nuclear envelope
Late Prophase
Kinetochores develop on each chromatid
Prometaphase
Nuclear envelope breaks down and the spindle forms
Metaphase
-The chromosomes line up at the metaphase plate (center)
-A spindle assembly checkpoint occurs at the end (if good activates APC and goes towards anaphase)
Anaphase
-Separation of chromatids controlled by M phase cyclin-CDK
-“Check point” → activates anaphase-promoting complex
Telophase
the chromosomes reach opposite poles of the cell, a nuclear envelope re-forms around each set of chromosomes, and the chromosomes begin to de-condense back into chromatin.
Cytokinesis
Division of the cytoplasm
Cytokinesis In animal cells
-Cell membrane pinches in between the nuclei
-Contractile ring of microfilaments of actin and myosin forms
-Interact to contract and pinch cell in two
Cytokinesis In plant cells
-Vesicle from the golgi apparatus appear along the plane of cell division
-These fuse to form a new cell membrane
-Content of vesicles form a cell plate
-Beginning of the new cell wall
