Definition of IBR-virus free bovine herd
1. No confirmed cases for the last 12 months
2. For the past 2 years, there has been no vaccination againts IBR
3. a blood, milk or meat juice sample taken from each bovine animal over a period of not more than 12 months
OR
4. blood, milk or meat juice samples taken on at least two occasions at an interval of 2 -12 months from_
- all female bovine animals over 12 months of age
AND
- all male bovine animals used or intended for breeding over 12 months of age
AND
- a random sample of male animals not intended for breeding over 12 months of
age.

Definition of officially enzootic-bovine-leukosis-free herd
1. No clinical/laboratory evidence of EBL in the herd and no confirmed cases in the last 24 months
2. All animals over 24 months have tested negative in the last 12 months to 2 tests carried out at least 4 months apart
3. any animals introduced into the herd:
- Come from an officially free herd
- Comes from an establishemnt where there has been no evidence of EBL within the 24 months prior to their dispatch and:
1. all animals over 24 months of age reacted negatively to a test on two occasions at an
interval of not less than 4 months while kept in isolation; or have been subjected to a
serological test, with a negative result, within 30 days prior to their introduction
2.all animals less than 24 months of age were born to dams, that have been subjected
to a serological test for EBL, with negative results, carried out on samples taken
during the past 12 months on two occasions at an interval of not less than 4 months
4. all germinal products of bovine animals introduced into the establishment originate from establishments free from EBL; or from an approved germinal product establishments

Maintenance of IBR-virus free status in bovine herd
Non-vaccinated:
1. General requirements must continue to be met
2. Seronegative results from blood/milk/meat juice annually of all bovine animals older than 24 months (bulk milk: 3 samples at least 3 months apart)
3. Introduction of animals must originate from IBR-free herds OR obtain 2 seronegative test results at least 21 days apart
Vaccinated:
1. All animals older than 6 months tested every 12 months
2. Tested before slaughter
3. Dairy: testing of milk every 6 months
4. Test aborted animals 3-6 weeks after abortion
5. Introduction of animals must originate from IBR-free herds OR obtain 2 seronegative test results at least 21 days apart
