misc Flashcards
complication of carotid endarterectomy - wound haematoma
bleeding into s/c tissue
rapid airway obstruction
paradoxical embolus
VTE travels thru IVC to right atrium, then to left circulation via ASD
dry gangrene
blood supply poor –> lack of O2 and nutrients –> necrosis
clear demarcation between dead and living tissue
not infected
wet gangrene
dry gangrene that has become infected, or 2ry to acute necrotic tissue
urgent surgical debridement or amputation to save rest of limb and pt from sepsis
long saphenous vein - side of leg
medial
arises dorsum great toe, travels next to medial malleolus and drains into femoral vein
short saphenous vein - side of leg
lateral
travels near lateral malleolus
Mx acute limb ischaemia - when to do embolectomy
when embolus is the cause
Mx acute limb ischaemia - when to do surgical bypass
