Origin: Medial 1/2 of clavicle anterior manubrium and body of sternum, costal cartilages of ribs 1-6, rectus sheath
Insertion: lateral lip of bicipital groove of humerus
Action: flexion of arm, extension of arm from position of full flexion, abduction of arm, medial rotation of arm
Innervation: Clavicular head: lateral pectoral C5, C6 Sternal head: medial pectoral C7, C8, T1

Origin: medial 1/3 of superior nuchal line, external occipital protuberance, nuchal ligament, spinous processes of C7-T12 vertebrae
Insertion: Lateral 1/3 of clavicle; acromion and spine of scapula
Action: Upper fibers: elevation and upward rotation of scapula; unilateral ipsilateral sidebend and contralateral rotation of neck; bilateral extension of neck; rotate contralaterally

∗ Lower fibers: depress & upward rotation scapula
Innervation: CN XI, spinal accessory, C3, C4 spinal nerves
