Feudal system
The feudal system was land owned by and society was organised during the Middle Ages
Medieval ages
Medieval ages was from 500 - 1500 AD. There was no control of go Ernest in Europe so people looked to the lords for leadership
Demesne
The king owned all the land but he could not control the farm land
Vassals
The Kings followers were called his vassals some of them were even lords
Knight
Lords gave them land in return for protection and loyalty that went into battle
Serfs
Serfs were poor people and were not allowed to leave the land or get married without the lords permission
Freemen
Freemen could come in and out of the land as they. Pleased
Manor
The manor was the land and everything on it owned by the Lord
Tithe
It was in the centre of the village and it was a church that peasant
Commons
It was the peasants animals
Open field system
It was for growing crops they would leave the soil there without crops
Motte and Bailey
The first castles were called motte and Bailey castles they were made of wood and very simple to build
Moat
Was a ditch around the castle walls filled with water it was connected by a nearby river or stream
Keep
The keep was in the lords castle it was his private room where the lady stayed and his family
Battlement
Was at the top of the keep solders kept guard for the enemy
