Q

H&E

A
  • haematoxylin (blue) stains acidic structures e.g. DNA and RNA
  • eosin (pink/red) stains basic structures, +ve charge e.g. protein

Q

immunohistochemistry

A
  • antibody binds to a specific structure of a protein
  • when chemical substrate is added, enzyme produces a coloured product
  • signal detected when target protein is present
  • can show where a protein is and how much is present
