Microscopy Flashcards
1
Q
2 ways to visualise cells using light microscopy
A
- staining (haematoxylin and eosin) > purple together
- antibodies (immunohistochemistry)
1
Q
H&E
A
- haematoxylin (blue) stains acidic structures e.g. DNA and RNA
- eosin (pink/red) stains basic structures, +ve charge e.g. protein
2
Q
immunohistochemistry
A
- antibody binds to a specific structure of a protein
- when chemical substrate is added, enzyme produces a coloured product
- signal detected when target protein is present
- can show where a protein is and how much is present
