What is the eyepiece for?

What is the diaphragm for?
Controls the amount of light to illuminate specimen
What sort of focus is there?
Coarse or fine
What does the coarse focus do?
Makes big adjustments on the focus
What does the fine focus do?
Makes small adjustments to the focus
What lens to you place over stage first?
Smallest objective lense
What focus do you use first?
Turn coarse wheel to make gap as small as possible
Where do you place the slide?
On the stage and hold in place with clips
How do you adjust the light?
Turn on lamp and adjust diaphragm to give clearest image as possible
What do you adjust first when you look down the eyepiece?
Coarse focus wheel so objective lens moves away from the stage
How do you make the final adjustments to focus?
Adjust the fine focus wheel
How do you magnify the image?
Turn to next objective lens and adjust fine focus wheel to get focus again
What does magnification mean?
How many times bigger than real life.
X200 means 200 times bigger than real life

Eyepiece mag X objective lens mag
What kind of lenses do you know?
Eyepiece and objective
What is a slide?
What is coverslip?
Strip of clear glass or plastic with object on it to look at.
Not part of microscope
Coverslip is thin glass or plastic that covers and protects object on the slide
