Michaels Flashcards
What is cuebid?
Repeating your RHO opening bid at the 2 level.
What do you bid if you have 5-5 in the minors?
Overcall a major with 2NT.
What do you need to use Michaels cuebidding?
You must have at least 5-5 in your 2 suits. And, either a “mini” (less than 10 points) or a “maxi” (16+ points).
What do you do if you have 10-15 points?
Do not use Michael’s. The mini-maxi agreement disqualifies the hand from Michaels. Instead, overcall with your higher ranking suit. You might get a chance to name your second suit layer.
How do you respond to a Michaels cuebid?
With a fit for one of your partner’s suits, raise to the appropriate level. Assume she has a mini (less than 10 points).
What does a cuebid over a minor indicate?
I have both majors (5-5).
What is unusual no trump (UNT)?
Shows the 2 lowest, unbid suits. Overcall with 2NT. Must have 5-5 in the 2 suits.
What is the mini-maxi agreement?
To use Michaels, you must have either a weak hand (less than 10 points) or a strong hand (16+ points).

I have at least 5-5 in the majors.

What does a 2 heart cuebid over 1 heart indicate?
I have at least 5 spades and a 5 card minor.
What is the Michaels Convention?
A way to show you have two 5 card suits (one of which is a major) in one bid.
What does a 2 diamond cuebid over 1 diamond indicate?
I gave at least 5 cards in each major.
What does a 2NT bid mean over a one bid opening?
It shows 5-5 in the two lowest, unbid suits.
What do you do if you don’t like your partner’s known suit?
Bid 2NT. Partner should name his minor suit.
