Meteorology Test review Flashcards
What causes wind to form?
Heat makes air particles rise and move over cold air particles.
What are the parts of the water cycle?
Condensation, Evaporation, Precipitation
What is Condensation?
Water vapor cools down in he atmosphere and forms into clouds.
What is Evaporation?
Heat from the sun makes water turn into water vapor and rise into the atmosphere.
What is precipitation?
The water droplets in the clouds become too heavy and fall down to the Earth as rain or snow.
What happens during the formation of clouds?
Air temperature cools, water vapor condenses into droplets of liquid water.
What are 2 reasons why wind is important?
Wind brings changes in the weather.
Wind pushes clouds and air masses from one place to another.
What is the extreme weather hazard from a hurricane?
Strong winds, rain, and rising sea levels.
What is the extreme weather hazard from a tornado?
Destructive funnel cloud.
What is the extreme weather hazard from lightning?
Electrical discharge
What is the extreme weather hazard from a flood?
Rain and rising water.
What is the extreme weather hazard from a thunderstorm?
Wind, rain, and lightning.
What is the extreme weather hazard from a blizzard?
Heavy, blinding snow.
What is the extreme weather hazard from a drought?
Dry conditions
One way to protect yourself from a hurricane?
Evacuate, take shelter, shutters, prepare, supplies.
