Mendels Laws Flashcards
Mendel’s law No.1 - Law of Segregation
‘During the formation of gametes, chromosome pairs are separated’
Mendel’s law of segregation means that an individual can pass only one allele for a characteristic onto a gamete
Mendel’s law No.2 - Law of independent assortment
’ Alleles on pairs of chromosomes are allocated to gametes randomly’
The inheritance of one characteristic will have no effect on the inheritance of another.
Different pairs of alleles are passed to offspring independently of each other.
Mendel’s law No.3 - law of Dominance
‘some alleles are dominant to others. Dominant alleles will be expressed over recessive alleles as the phenotype depends on the presence of dominant alleles’.
