Mendel Laws Flashcards
What is the Fillial Generation (F1)?
The first generation resulting immediately from a cross of the parents
What is the Second Fillial Generation (F2)
The second generation resulting from a cross of parents from F1 generation.
What is Genotype?
The genetic makeup of an organism
Represented by TWO letters only
What is Phenotype?
The appearance of an organism resulting from its genotype and the environment.
What is Co-Dominance?
Alleles of a gene pair in a heterozygote are fully expressed, thereby resulting in both alleles showing up.
What is Incomplete Dominance?
A form of inheritance in which one allele is not completely expressed over its paired allele, resulting in a third phenotype which is a combination of both phenotypes.
When is an allele labelled as “Dominant”
When the majority of the population expresses it.
Through experiments.
What are Sex Linked genes?
Genes that are carried by either sex chromosome (23rd)
What are Genes?
.
- Distinct sequence of nucleotides (A-T, C-G) located within DNA strands.
- Transferred from a parent to offspring.
- Determines some characteristics of the offspring.
What are Alleles?
- Alternative forms of a gene that arise by mutation
- Found at the same place on a chromosome.
