Memory And Storage Part One Flashcards
(3 cards)
CPU
Central processing unit
To fetch and execute instructions
Arithmetic logic unit perform calculations and logic
ControlUnit decodes instructions and send signals to control how data is around CPU
Cache fast access memory to for frequently use instructions and data
Registers small fast memory used to help search and execute instructions
Virtual memory
Virtual memory is using part of the hard disk as if it is memory
Nigel memory is needed because the amount of physical I may not be large enough to hold all open programs and data in use
Need for secondary storage
Rom Can’t be used to save files it is read only
RAM can’t be used to save files because it is volatile
Therefore secondary storage is needed because it is read write and non-volatile. Can be used for long-term storage or changeable data
