Membranes Flashcards
What is a cutaneous membrane?
Dry skin
What are the characteristics of mucous membrane?
Epithelial and Connective Tissue. It’s wet and secretes mucous. Lines and opens cavities. Traps, lubricates, protects and secretes enzymes.
What is a serous membrane?
Epithelial and Connective tissue. It’s wet and secretes serous fluid between layers and lubricates. Lines closed cavities. Folds to form 2 layers. Parietal and Visceral.
What is Parietal?
lines wall of ventral body cavity.
What is Viscreal?
covers organ surfaces.
What does a Pleura do?
It lines pleural cavities and surround lungs.
What is a periocardium?
Surrounds the heart
What is a Peritoneum?
lines abdominal cavity and covers organs
Name the only connective tissue membrane?
Synovial membane
What are the Synovial Membrane characteristics?
It’s wet, only connective tissue membrane! No Epithelial tissue. Lines joint cavities (freely and movable) bursae, tendon sheets. Lubricates and provides nutrients cushion
What does Dermatology mean?
The study of skin disorders
What generally is Integumentary?
Largest organ by weight. Includes all 4 primary tissue types. Aids in excretion of waste products
What are the 4 primary tissue types of integumentary?
Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous
What are the 2 layers called in Integumentary?
Epidermis and Dermis
What are membranes?
covers surfaces and organs. Line body cavities and protects and lubricates
