Membrane Transport Protien Flashcards
1
Q
What is insulin?
A
A hormone that regulates glucose uptake.
2
Q
Add Membrane Transport flashcards for this one.
A
Do it!
3
Q
What is an ABC protein?
A
Stands for “ATP-Binding Cassette”
A family of proteins that bind ATP.
Most proteins work as pumps .
CFTR is an ABC protien.
4
Q
What is CFTR?
A
Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator.
Act as a chloride channel.
Channel opening requires both ATP binding and phosphorylation.
Important for fluids secretion at multiple epithelia .
5
Q
What’s wrong with people who have Cholera?
A
There is an unregulated opening of CFTR, causing excessive fluid secretion in the G.I. tract and watery diarrhea. And dangerous dehydration.
