Q

What are the functions of membrane contact sites (MCS)?

A
  • Calcium mobilisation - Sarcoplasmic reticulum for muscular contraction. Storage of calcium.
  • Lipid transfer - Lipids synthesised in the ER. Recycling of LDL back to membrane from endosomes.
  • Cell signalling - protein tethers from ER to endosome
  • Organelle fusion.
