Membrane Contact Sites (MCS) Flashcards
1
Q
What types of membrane contact sites (MCS) are there?
A
Protein - protein
Protein - lipid
2
Q
What are the functions of membrane contact sites (MCS)?
A
- Calcium mobilisation - Sarcoplasmic reticulum for muscular contraction. Storage of calcium.
- Lipid transfer - Lipids synthesised in the ER. Recycling of LDL back to membrane from endosomes.
- Cell signalling - protein tethers from ER to endosome
- Organelle fusion.

Q
What is ALS caused by?
A
Mitochondria contacts.
