1-fruit and vegetables, whole grain breads and cereals, nuts and pulses and fish
2. Less saturated fat from red meat and dairy foods
3. Less moderate alcohol consumption
4. More levels of sunshine, more oily swish and therefore more vitamin D
Why is oily fish beneficial
Oily fish contains a special type of unsaturated fat called Omega 3 which reduces the likelihood of a blood clot developing in an artery
Why are fruit and vegetables beneficial
They are naturally low in fat/calories and contain antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin C which reduce the risk of CVD. They also contain a type of fibre which reduces the levels of cholesterol in the blood.
Why are whole grain foods beneficial
These foods are rich in fibre which fills us up and reduces snacking and therefore overweight and obesity. This reduces the strain put on the heart when pumping blood around the body.

Olive oil provides monounsaturated fat which is thought to reduce the risk of CVD
