True, most doctors were not specially trained or even trained at all so they believed in Greek ideas and galen.
Why did doctors not understand medicine and how the body works during this time?
Human dissections where banned so doctors didn’t understand how bodies work.
What was the main cause doctors believed when people got sick and why they got sick?
During this time the church was a big influence so people believed that people became ill because god wanted them to die or suffer from sins.
What did doctors blame everything on other than sins etc…?
Demons, bad smells (miasma), witchcraft, astrology, charms and luck.

There were many explanations based religion. Astrology and general knowledge. Most people believed the causes where unholy behaviour, bad smells (miasma)

People cleaned the streets, burned rubbish, prayer.
