Mechanics Flashcards
What is Newton’s first law?
If a body is at rest it will remain at rest and if moving it will continue to move in a straight line with constant velocity until acted upon by an external force
What is Newton’s second law?
If a body experiences a resultant force in a direction it will accelerate in that direction such that resultant Force = mass x acceleration
What is Newton’s Third Law?
For every force acting on a body, an equal and opposite force acts in another body
What are the suvat equations?
v=u+at S=ut + 1/2at^2 S=vt - 1/2at^2 S= (u+v) / 2 x t V^2 = u^2 + 2as
What does inextensible mean?
does not vary in length
What does light mean?
negligible mass
What does particle mean?
negligible dimensions
What does negligible mean?
small enough to ignore
What does smooth mean?
negligible friction
What does uniform mean?
the same throughout
For vector non constant acceleration what should you not forget?
- Wiggles
- vwiggle = drwiggle / dt
- awiggle= dvwiggle / dt
What is Fmax?
F
When is it at Fmax?
When moving, or at point of slipping
What about a block on the slope?
If block in equilibrium fiction is just the force needed to stop movement which might not be Fmax
