self assessed health status
an individuals own opinions about how they feel about their health and state of mind and their life in general. It is commonly sourced from population surveys
life expectancy
the number of years of life on average remaining to an individual at a particular age is death rates do not change
mortality
relates to death often at a population level
mortality rate
the number of deaths usually per 1000 or 100000 people in a 12 month period
morbidity
ill health in an individual and levels of ill health within a population
incidence
refers to the number or rates of new cases or conditions in a population during a given period
prevalence
the tory’s number of cases of a particular disease or condition present in a population at a given time
Years of life lost (fatal)
a measure of how many years expected life are lost due to premature death
years lived with disability (not fatal)
a measure of how many healthy years of life are lost due to disease injury or disability
Disability adjusted life year
a measure of burden of disease. One daly is equal to one year of life lost due to premature death and the years lived with disability for people living with health conditions
