Measurement Flashcards
What is measurement?
measurementis the comparison of an unknown physical quantity with a known standard quality of the same kind.
5 importance of measurement
- it makes buying and selling goods easier
- it helps to get accurate amount of physical quantities.
- it is important in construction of roads, buildings, bridges, etc.
- it is important to perform experiments in a science laboratory.
- it is important in laboratories to get proper amount of medicines.
physical quantities
those quantities which can be measured are known as physical quantities.
fundamental/ basic quantities
the units which are independent of eachother are called fundamental/ basic quantities.
types of physical quantities and its defination with examples
2 types: fundamnetal- the units which are independent of eachother are called fundamental/ basic quantities. examples: length, mas, time , tempreture, etc.
derieved- the physical quantities which are obtained by multiplying/ dividing 1/ more fundamental quantities are known as derieved quantities. examples: area, volume, speed, velocity, pressure, work , etc.
derived units
the units which are obtained by multiplying/ dividing 1/ more fundamental units are known as derieved units.
Mass and its SI unit
the total quantity of matter preent in a body is called the mass of the body. its SI unit is kilogram(kg)
1 standard kilogram
it is defined as the mas of a platinum- iridium cylinder kept at 0 degree C at the international bureau of Weights &measures near paris in france.
weight and its SI unit
the weight os the body is the gravity acting on a body and pulling it to the centre of the earth. its SI unit is Newton.
time and its SI unit
time is defined as the duration between any two events. its SI unit second.
one solar day
one mean solar day is defined as the time taken by earth to coplete one rotation around the sun about its axis.
true or false? measurement is very important in our life. physical quantities cannot be measured. metre and kilogram are derived units. mass is a constant quantity.
