Rhizoids
A short, thin filament found in fungi and in certain plants and sponges that anchors the growing (vegetative) body of the organism.
Vascular Tissue
A complex conducting tissue, formed of more than one cell type, found in vascular plants.
Sporangium
An enclosure in which spores are formed, it can be composed of a single cell or can be multicellular.
Calyptra
An enlarged archegonia venter in bryophytes that protects a capsule.
Spores
A reproductive cell capable of developing into a new individual without fusion with another reproductive cell.
Adventitious Roots
Plant roots that form from any non-root tissue and are produced both during normal development.
Tap Roots
The main root of a primary root system, growing vertically downward.
Prothallus
The gametophyte stage in the life of a fern or other pteridophyte.
Monocotyledonous
Grass and grass-like flowering plants.
Dicotyledonous
One of the two groups into which all the flowering plants or angiosperms were formerly divided.
