Lower Limb Muscles Insertion/origin/action Flashcards
Tibialis anterior causes what actions
Dorsiflexion and inversion of foot
Tibialis posterior actions ?
Plantarflexion and inversion of foot
Which muscles involved in dorsiflexion and eversion of foot ?
Fibularis longus, brevis, tertius
3 joints of the ankle
Tibiotalar, subtalar, inferior tibiofibular
CONTENTS of tarsal tunnel anterior to posterior
Tom Dick And Very Nervous Harry
Tibialis posterior
Flexor DIgitorum longus
Artery (posterior tibial)
Vein (posterior tibial)
Nerve (tibial)
Flexor HAllucis longus
Muscle that can flex hip and extend knee joint
Rectus femoris
Action of biceps femoris
Extend hip and flex knee joint
Action of sartorius
Flex hip and flex knee joint
Action of vastus medialis
Extend knee joint and stabilise patella
Muscle that flexes hip joint and no function on knee joint
Psoas major
Primary action of vastus group (vastus medialis, lateralis, intermedius) is what ? Why ?
Extension of the knee
By inserting onto the quadriceps tendon and contracting to pull the patella to create knee extension
Why can a weak vastus medialis cause patella dislocation ?
Vastus medialis lesser known function = patellar tracking
It inserts both into quadriceps tendon and medial border of patellar.
Prevents patellar from luxation of subluxation laterally during knee loading or with knee flexion.
