Earthquakes- seisometers and lasers monitor movements and can give warnings
Volcanoes- scientists can monitor the signs before an eruption such as tiny earthquakes or escaping gas
What is prediction?
Earthquakes- cannot be reliably predicted but scientists can monitor movements
Volcanic eruptions- can be predicted if scientists monitor closely
What is protection?
Earthquakes- new bullrings can use concrete which absorbs earthquakes energy buildings and bridges can be strengthened
Volcanic eruptions- buildings can be strengthened and trenches and barriers can divert lava away from settlements

Future developments can avoid high risk areas
