Living things And Cells Flashcards
Biology
Is the study of living things
Organism
Another word for living things
Mrsferg
Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Feeding, Excretion, Reproduction, Growth
Movement
Animals can move from place to place
Plants do not move from place to place. They move when they grow or when a flower opens and closes its petals.
Respiration
The way living things get energy. They take in oxygen and mix it with food to get energy.
Sensitively
The ability to react to changes in the environment.
Animals will run away from danger and plants will grow towards light.
Feeding
Animals do not make their own food. They get their food by eating plants and other animals.
Plants make their own food.
Cell Membrane
Very thin layer that surrounds to cell.
Holds cell controls what passes into and out of the cell
Cytoplasm
The watery liquid found between the nucleus and the cell membrane
Nucleus
Is normally round. It acts as the control centre of the cell. It has DNA
Mitochondria
Supply energy to the cell
Cell wall
Found outside the cell membrane of a plant cell.
Gives strength to the cell.
Vacuole
Space containing water, sugar and wastes - gives strength to the cell
Chloroplasts
Contains chlorophyll to help make food using sunlight(photosynthesis)
Vertebrate
Animals that have a back bone
