Q

Talk about stratum superficial

A

nucleated flat cells
desquamated as the cornfield layer.
Cellular organelles are reduced
The cells are rich in glycogen

few number of keratohyalin granules surrounded by ribosomes (not tonofilaments).

Keratohyalin granules may cause internal thickening of the cell membrane.

Q

Talk about soft palate

A

nasal side is pseudostratified columnar ciliated epithelium with goblet cells.

there is a line called Ah line
Few and short C T. papillae.

A continuous layer of elastic fibers separates lamina propria from submucosa.

The submucosa contains fat cells and mucous glands

Q

Compare between C.T papilae

A

Gingiva : long-numerous-irregular-slender
Hard palate : short & broad

Soft palate + skin side of lip + floor of mouth + vestibular fornix : Short & few

Mucous side of lip &cheek : short+ irregular+ few elastic fibers

Vermilion border : long-numerous-densely arranged with large capillary loops

inferior surface of tongue : short & numerous (saw teeth apperance)

Alveolar mucosa : short & even missing

Q

Talk about mucous side of lip

A

C. T. papillae are short, irregular with few elastic fibers.

The submucosa contains fat cells and mixed salivary gland on the surface of orbecularis oris muscle.

Q

Talk about vermilion border

A

lining mucosa and skin side of lip.
Present only in human race
st. squamous epithelium with thin layer of keratin.

 C.T. papillae are numerous, long and densely arranged carrying large capillary loops, so the thin layer of epithelium permits the appearance of the red color of blood.

Q

Why does vermilion border appear red

A

Epthelium has a thin layer of keratin
Ephelial ridges+C.T papilae are long & numerous
Blood capilires are numerous + near surface

15
Q

Talk about stratum lucidium

A

a pale translucent layer
formed of 2-3 layers of flat cells
very small nuclei and indistinct boundaries.

The cells are permeated with elaidin (oil) which forms an insulating layer preventing evaporation of fluids from the body .

16
Q

talk about melanoblasts of epiderms

A

present in between the basal cell layer

in black races they may fill all the epithelial layers and even the C.T. papilla

17
Q

Talk about hair follicle

A

shaft projected above the surface

root embedded in an invagination of epidermis called hair follicle.

The root terminates in an expansion called hair bulb.

An upward invagination of C.T. to hair bulb called hair papilla.

One or two sebaceous glands ( holocrine gland) open in the neck of the hair follicle.

Sweat glands (apocrine or merocrine ) are present and consist of coiled secretory part and duct formed of single cuboidal cells with large nucleus

18
Q

where do sebacous gland open

A

at neck of hair follicle

19
Q

talk about dermis

A

Denst C.T + short & few C.T papilae
consists of 2 layer : papillary & reticular

papillary layer:-
less number of cells
thin elastic fibers
Collagen fibers are arranged in network

Reticular layer:-
More cells
thIck elastic fibers
Collagen fibers are irregularly arranged

20
Q

Talk about cheek

A

C.T papillae similar to that of mucus side of lip

Submucosa similar to that of mucus side of lip

sebaceous glands may present in the C.T. lateral to the mouth corner (called Fordyce spots)

21
Q

Compare between submucosa

A

Hard palate : either fat cells or pure mucus glands
Soft palate : fat cells + mucus salivary glands

Mucus side of lip & cheek : fat cells + mixed salivary glands

floor of mouth : // & sublingual & mandibular duct
Alveolar mucosa : small mixed salivary glands

22
Q

Talk about inferior surface of tongue

A

Covered by thin nonkeratinized epithelium

short & numerous C.T. papillae (saw teeth appearance).

No submucosa

23
Q

Where are fordyce spots

A

C,T of cheek which is lateral to corner of mouth

24
Q

where are saw teeth appearnce C,T papillae

A

inferior surface of tongue

25
Q

Where are the elastic fiber layer which seperate basment membrane & lamina propria

A

at soft palate

26
Q

Talk about floor of mouth

A

It permits the movement of tongue.

Covered by thin stratified sqamous nonkeratinized epithelium.

C.T. papillae are few and short.

Submucosa contains fat cells. Sublingual and submandibular ducts

27
Q

Talk about vestibular fornix

A

It permits the movement of lip & cheek

covered by stratified sqamous nonkeratinized epithelium.

C.T. papillae are short and few.

The labial frenum is folds of mucous membrane contain loose C.T. with no muscle fiber

28
Q

Talk about alveolar mucosa

A

Covered by stratified sqamous nonkeratinized epithelium.

C.T. papillae are short or even missing.
Submucosa may contain small mixed salivary gland.

Elastic fibers are thin in lamina propria and thick in submucosa

29
Q

Which mucosa have thin non-kertanized epthelium

A

Inferior surface of tongue & floor of mouth
