Lining mucosa Flashcards
What is function of lining mucosa
lining protection
What is function of firmly attached
protection mucosa from being bitten
What is function of loosely attached
allow movement of lips , cheek & tongue
What does lining mucosa consist of
Thick non-keratinized epithelium
B.M
Thin lamina propria
Submucosa
Stratrum basale of lining is
similar to that of kertanized
Stratum intermedium differences
K : small polyhedral cells
NK: Large polyhedral cells
K: Wide intercellular space prominent desmosomes
NK: Small /// + non obvious desmomes
K : Odland bodies are large oval
NK: Odland bodies are smaller+rounded amorph.core
Talk about stratum superficial
nucleated flat cells
desquamated as the cornfield layer.
Cellular organelles are reduced
The cells are rich in glycogen
few number of keratohyalin granules surrounded by ribosomes (not tonofilaments).
Keratohyalin granules may cause internal thickening of the cell membrane.
Talk about soft palate
nasal side is pseudostratified columnar ciliated epithelium with goblet cells.
there is a line called Ah line
Few and short C T. papillae.
A continuous layer of elastic fibers separates lamina propria from submucosa.
The submucosa contains fat cells and mucous glands
Compare between C.T papilae
Gingiva : long-numerous-irregular-slender
Hard palate : short & broad
Soft palate + skin side of lip + floor of mouth + vestibular fornix : Short & few
Mucous side of lip &cheek : short+ irregular+ few elastic fibers
Vermilion border : long-numerous-densely arranged with large capillary loops
inferior surface of tongue : short & numerous (saw teeth apperance)
Alveolar mucosa : short & even missing
Talk about mucous side of lip
C. T. papillae are short, irregular with few elastic fibers.
The submucosa contains fat cells and mixed salivary gland on the surface of orbecularis oris muscle.
Talk about vermilion border
lining mucosa and skin side of lip.
Present only in human race
st. squamous epithelium with thin layer of keratin.
C.T. papillae are numerous, long and densely arranged carrying large capillary loops, so the thin layer of epithelium permits the appearance of the red color of blood.
Why does vermilion border appear red
Epthelium has a thin layer of keratin
Ephelial ridges+C.T papilae are long & numerous
Blood capilires are numerous + near surface
talk about skin side of lip
Epidermis
The basement membrane. (as mucosa)
dermis : dense C. T. with few and short papillae
TALK ABOUT EPIDERMS
stratified squamous keratinized epithelium
hair, sweat and sebaceous glands.
stratum lucidum presence
Melanoblasts presence
Talk about stratum lucidium
a pale translucent layer
formed of 2-3 layers of flat cells
very small nuclei and indistinct boundaries.
The cells are permeated with elaidin (oil) which forms an insulating layer preventing evaporation of fluids from the body .
