Linear Kinetics 3 Flashcards
Mechanical work equation
Work = Force x Displacement
W (J) = F (N) x d (m)
Total system work equation
Total system work = sum of forces x displacement
W = d (F-mg)
Why is work due to gravity in the pull phase negative
because a negative force is multiplied by a positive displacement
When are negative/positive works shown
negative work in opposite direction of force
positive work in same direction
How does mechanical power differ from mechanical work
considers time over which the force is applied
Mechanical power equation
power = work / time
p= w / t (J/s - Watts)
Power equation (rearranged)
P = F x v
(v from change in displacement / time
Mechanical energy definition
the capacity of a system to do work
or equal to the change in energy
What 2 forms can mechanical energy be in
Kinetic energy or Potential energy
What 2 forms can potential energy been in
Gravitational or strain (elastic)
Potential energy equation
PE = m x g x h
g = -9.81
Kinetic energy equation
KE = 1/2 x m x v2
Strain energy equation
SE = 1/2k x X2
k = object stiffness, X = displacement
Energy conservation equation
Total mechanical energy = KE + PE + SE
