Light and Waves Flashcards

What is The law of reflection?

the angle it hits at will come back at the same angle

What are Longitudinal waves?

Longitudinal waves are where the wave moves the same way as the energy moves. E.g soundwaves, seismic waves

What are Transverse waves?

it is where the wave vibrates at right angles to the way it travels E.g light waves, x-rays and water waves

What is amplitude?
It is how tall a wave is from the mid point to the top
What is a wavelength?
The distance between the top of the tallest parts of the wave
what are transparent materials, translucent and opaque materials
Transparent materials light to go through
translucent materials alows some light to go through
opaque materials do not allow any light to go through it
what is refraction?
It is the bending of light when it travels through one transparent object to another. it is what allows us to make lenses, magnifying glasses and prisms
what causes light to bend
Refraction
What is a wave?
A wave is a disturbance that moves energy from one place to another.
