Light and Sound Flashcards
When a light hits a surface, what are the three things that can happen?
Light can be transmitted, absorbed or reflected.
What does the Law of Reflection state?
It states that the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection.
What is refraction?
The bending of light rays.
Why does refraction occur?
It occurs because the light rays change speed.
What happens to light rays when they enter a more dense medium?
They slow down.
What happens to light rays when they enter a less dense medium?
They speed up.
What happens when light enters a material other than air?
It bends towards the normal.
What happens to light when it leaves a material into air?
It bends away from the normal.
What does amplitude affect?
The sound.
What does frequency affect?
The pitch.
What is the top of a sound wave called?
The crest.
What is the bottom of a sound wave called?
The trough.
