Light Flashcards
How is a shadow formed?
When light cannot travel through an opaque object
What travels faster light or sound?
Light
What can light travel through that sound cannot?
A vacuum
What happens when light reaches an opaque object?
Some of it is reflected and some of it is absorbed into the material
What happens on a translucent material?
Light travels through it but leaves it from many directions (scattering)
What is a specular reflection?
When the angle of reflection is the same as the angle of incidence
What is a diffuse reflection?
When the light comes off in many directions and is scattered
What is refraction?
The change of direction of light
Why does refraction happen?
Because light travels at different speeds in different materials
What is a lense?
Curved pieces of glass or another transparent material
What are the types of cells that are in the retina?
Rod cells, cone cells
What is white light made of?
Different frequencies of light
What are the colours of the rainbow called?
A spectrum
What does a prisim do?
Can split up white light to see the colours
What is the separating of the colours called?
Dispersion
